HP COMPAQ CQ61 dis-assembly, fan cleaning.
Fan had a lot of dust and hair blocking all air flow. The notebook used to overheat with fan running at maximum at all times. A typical indicator of clogged air flow.
Just look at the dust at the parts which dont receive air flow at all. Probably this notebook has never been serviced before.
The cleaned motherboard using rubbing alcohol.
Zompaq might think of a relatively easy servicing design. It was too complex and unnecessarily hard to take everything apart.
At least the sensitive components were electrostatic-ally shielded.
The frame that holds everything in place..
Heat sink reattached after reapplying the thermal paste. Arctic silver in this case.
Some photos of internals while putting everything back together.
The dust piece that was the problem. Hair, smoke, dust and what not formed a foamy looking structure just inside the copper heat exchanger's fins.
THE BOTTOM-LINE: If you are really a geek and would like to take apart or clean notebooks on your own, better stay away from HP/COMPAQ notebooks. They wont get a high repair-ability score. A lot of mess, time and need for special tools is there.
